They will take you on a specially-designed itinerary to show you the very best that the Museums have to offer.

The Raphael Rooms on our Private Vatican Tours

As well as delving into the Vatican’s history, the private Vatican Tour explores the major artworks that the museums have to offer, including Hellenistic Sculptures, and Renaissance frescoes like Raphael's 'School of Athens'.

The pièce-de-resistance, of course, is the Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo spent eight years of his life on his now-famous frescoes. By the time we arrive at the Chapel, you’ll know not only the story behind the work but also the symbolism and significance of it.

We’ll then head to St. Peter’s Basilica through the group entrance that allowing you to skip the line that often stretches around the piazza at the height of the season. Built over the purported site of St. Peter’s tomb, the Basilica is one of the world’s most important Christian sites. It’s also one of the world’s most striking architectural spaces, taking the best minds of the Renaissance more than 120 years to complete. Inside, we’ll take in Michelangelo’s ‘Pietà’, Bernini’s ‘baldachino’, and the chair of St. Peter, among other treasures.

With your own private Vatican tour guide, you’ll have time to ask all the questions you can think of, linger over the works that interest you and stop at pieces you may otherwise have passed. Part indulgence, part education, our private Vatican tours are the perfect extra ingredient for an enriching Italian vacation.

Our guide Siriana Nichil was the best! She was very attentive, energetic, knowledgeable and personable. She is one of, if not the best guide I have ever worked with.
Very nice tour guide. Very informative. Good choice.
Angela was a superb guide in such a confined and crowded venue. She was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

Important information

Before you travel, please read our important notes about possible disruptions & site entrance requirements

As with all museums, particular galleries of the Vatican museums can sometimes be closed without prior notice and pieces removed for restoration or loan. In the case of a gallery being closed, your guide will take you to another section of the museums instead.

Also, please remember that the Sistine Chapel is a holy place, and attire must be appropriate for the visit. Both men and women are asked to wear clothing that covers at least the shoulders and knees. Walks of Italy cannot be held responsible for denied entry due to improper dress. Please note that, since the chapel is at the end of the Vatican visit, it is sufficient to bring extra coverings with you and put them on before our entrance to the holy areas.

Note: We advise our clients that St.Peter's Basilica may be closed during special celebrations/festivities, including the Easter ceremonies. If this occurs during your visit, we will spend more time inside the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museums. Your guide will still give you an introduction to the church should you wish to visit this on your own at a later occasion. We are unable to provide refunds or discounts.

Please ensure that all members of your party have a valid ID on them on the day of the visit. This is particularly important for guests who have qualified for a senior, student, or child reduction.

IMPORTANT: While the Vatican Museums are equipped with elevators for wheelchair access, they are not conveniently located on the regular tour route and only give access to specific sections of the Museums. Please contact us at info@walksofitaly.com if you have walking disabilities or if you are in a wheelchair. We can then work out a suitable alternative.

For details of what you may and may not bring inside the Vatican Museums (you may not, for example, carry backpacks), click here. Guests who do bring these items will be required to leave them in the Vatican cloakroom and will be responsible for collecting them at the end of the tour. Please note that it is a 15 to 20 minute walk from St. Peter’s Square back to the entrance of the Museums.

Our guide, Jovita, made our tour of the Vatican a memorable, informative and personal experience. She was so knowledgeable about the history, the art, the culture, the people and the politics that shaped its story. We are especially happy that we chose to have Walks of Italy provide us with a guide for just the four of us as it made the experience, which otherwise would have been overwhelming due to the crowds, a truly wonderful day. Visiting the Vatican has been a lifelong dream and Jovita ensured that it was everything that we wanted and more.
Eleonora was fantastic. Our disabled daughter has some sensory issues and found the initial entry to the Vatican challenging from a sensory standpoint. Eleonora was very patient and did a wonderful job adjusting to the tour for our needs and helping us fast-track our entry. It allowed our daughter to settle down and for both her and the rest of the family to enjoy the tour and information. Thank you!

We absolutely loved the tour! Every second was amazing and we learned so much throughout the day! Giovanna was perfect and so passionate! Thank you for a great experience!
My wife and I had as our guide Sev Borzak, PhD. He was aware of my limited vision, (I am considered legally blind) which prompted him to take particular care to describe paintings, scultptures and artifacts of all kinds, history and culture in more detail than I had expected. Also, in certain cases, he obtained permission from the guards for me to feel sculptures and/or artifacts. I can not only recommend the event, but also the guide. The importance of the quality of the guide cannot be overrated. Our experience was excellent.
Cecilia was a wonderful guide. She was very knowledgable and kind. She did not rush us through our day and was very willing to answer all of our questions. We would highly recommend her for a tour guide and enjoyed our tour with her.
Alessia was wonderful! We were accompanied by our 3 young children and she was able to tailor our experience so that they enjoyed it as much as my husband and I did! I would definitely recommend Walks of Italy to others.
Camilla was terrific. She was very personable and provided just the right amount of information. Our Private Vatican Tour was perfect. Thanks so much.
The tour was excellent. Well paced and informative.

Maria was a terrific guide. She was able to answer any question we asked of her--she knew everything about the Vatican and its museums. She made the experience truly memorable.
Excellent tour and Martha was very informative and accomodating. Highest recommendation as a tour guide!
Agnese was a wonderful guide. She has a lot of passion for history and that comes through with her excellent work. She was wonderful and patient with our 8 year old son on a very hot day.
We had a great time! Thank you Anna
To have a private guide for the just the two of us was an experience of a lifetime. Katia focused on what was important and meaningful for us. She shared her expertise of the museum and St Peter's so we felt an intimate connection to both places. Highly recommend this tour and Katia as a guide. Worth every euro!
Our guide was fantastic. Super knowledgeable and made it a wonderful experience
Estoy muy satisfecha por la atención , puntualidad y seriedad de Walks of Italy. Felix el guía fue muy atento y paciente con mi madre que es una señora mayor
We could NOT be HAPPIER!!!! The BEST tour guide we could ask for!!!!
Very good tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable. There wasn't a single question she couldn't answer. We had hoped for less time in the museum and more in St. Peter's. The tour felt rushed at the end because we spent too much time in the museum.

Marta was excellent!!! Great with the kids and adults alike!! Very knowledgeable.
Cecilia was sweet, knowledgeable and well tuned in. She did absolutely everything right and knew exactly how to give me the most enriching and enjoyable experience, touring the millions of Vatican treasures. I can only highly recommend her. Also, spending a bit more money on a private tour was worth every penny, and then some. Well done Cecilia! ... and I will go to Seville...
Enza was a terrific guide. She was well organized, knowledgeable and did a good job of pacing the tour. She was warm and engaging and all four of us felt it was a fantastic tour. We would gladly recommend your company and Enza.
We couldn't imagine a better tour guide. He made our trip to the Vatican the highlight of our vacation. Thank you
Francesco was our guide and he was a lovely young man. He was prompt, engaging and most kind and gentle with my mother who is disabled. He was excellent in explaining and answering our questions. I will have no hesitation in recommending Walks of Italy to others.
Our guide was Maryanna (not sure on spelling). She was amazing and extremely educated and knowledgeable. She was very patient with our many questions and had a great sense of humor. Very satisfied and would would recommend this private tour if you have a small group. Thank you again Maryanna from the Negron family!
The Vatican tour was great. It would been a challenging feat by ourselves because my husband required a wheelchair for part of the tour. The tour was less stressful because of Maurizio. He was extraordinarily knowledgeable and well versed in all areas that we were interested in. He was courteous, helpful and understanding. We were very pleased at his ability to tailor the tour to our specific and sometimes challenging needs.
Really enjoyed the tour. Claudia was fantastic.

We appreciated Maurizio's deep knowledge of the Vatican and the history of the church and artwork. We also appreciated his respect for the museums, chapel, basilica, and artwork.

We were so thankful to have Francesca as our guide for the Vatican tour. She did a great job getting us through the absolutely massive museum and the nearly as massive crowds within. She asked if we had anything we wanted to focus on, and while we did not, she managed to give a fantastic overview of the the collection. Observing the number of tour groups and the difficulty they had in staying together and listening to their guides, we enjoyed the personal interaction that she was able to provide.
Valentina is a wonderful guide. She was very very knowledgeable about the art and important landmarks on the tour. She is a very nice person and made the trip a lot of fun for my family. The private tour is the way to go, especially if you don't walk fast. You can walk at your speed and tailor the tour to your specific interests. .I definitely will recommend Valentina and Walks of Italy.
Rosa provided a knowledgeable and personal tour filled with insights and facts that would take weeks to research. She understood the flow of the crowd and always put us in the best possible position. As Catholics she understood our values and was sure to focus on things important to us. We so enjoyed our time with Rosa when the tour ended we felt like we wear leaving an old friend. We had tears in our eyes. Rating on 1-10 it was a 15!
Absolutely brilliant - I will definitely recommend this to friends and family. Tour guide was very knowledgeable.

Francesco was very knowledgable especially about the art. He took extra time to take us to the part of the museum with historical paintings which was not included in the tour. We appreciated his extra effort and thoroughly enjoyed his passion for art. Overall he helped focus our visit by pointing out key pieces which can easily be overlooked given the sheer volume of objects. I'd highly recommend a private tour guide to anyone looking to visit the Vatican Museum!
