Tour description
Get Ahead of the Crowds with a Morning Vatican Tour
This private early morning Vatican tour begins when the Vatican Museums are just opening for the day and nearly empty. Led by your personal guide, an expert art historian and storyteller, you’ll walk through legendary galleries like the Gallery of the Maps and the Raphael Rooms without the usual crowds around you. With no other guests in your group, your private guide is there to tailor the journey to your curiosity and interests.
Step Into the Sistine Chapel
After a comprehensive tour of the galleries, then comes the moment. Before entering the Sistine Chapel, your guide will have provided helpful historical context behind Michelangelo’s work, allowing you a deeper appreciation of the paintings on the ceiling like “Creation of Adam” and the “Last Judgment.”
Note: Between January 12 and March 31, 2026, the Vatican Museums will carry out a dedicated preservation project focused on Michelangelo’s "Last Judgment" in the Sistine Chapel. To allow specialists to work safely and thoroughly, the entire wall featuring the fresco will be covered by scaffolding throughout the intervention. The Sistine Chapel will remain open to visitors, though this specific artwork will be temporarily out of view during the restoration period. We appreciate your patience and understanding as essential conservation work is performed on this remarkable masterpiece.
Explore St. Peter’s Basilica via a Special Access Passage
Your experience continues into St. Peter’s Basilica through a special access passage that’s closed to the public. Inside, your guide reveals the legends, architecture and masterpieces that make this one of the most important churches on Earth. From Bernini’s soaring canopy to Michelangelo’s Pietà, every corner tells a story.
