Amazing tour of local eateries- delicious food delicacies and wines. Such a great way to learn about a city and to experience foods you normally wouldn’t come across! Our guide Chiara was knowledgeable and fun - I highly recommend this tour.

We had a fantastic time on this food tour and I’d genuinely recommend it, particularly if you’re visiting Rome as a family. Our guide was Andrea (I think!) and he was brilliant. He was extremely knowledgeable without turning the tour into a history lecture, and he was absolutely fantastic with our kids. He involved them, answered all their questions and kept them interested throughout. That made a huge difference. The tour itself was a brilliant way of seeing a different side of Rome. You’re not simply being taken from one food stop to another. There’s loads of history and local context woven into it, and Testaccio itself is fascinating. There were two particular highlights for us. The gelato at the end was outstanding, especially after walking and eating our way around the neighbourhood. And the visit to Checchino dal 1887 was something else entirely. The restaurant is built into Monte Testaccio, the enormous ancient hill made from millions of discarded Roman amphorae, and the wine cellar is actually dug into the hill itself. The owner was a real raconteur too. Rather than just showing us a cellar and giving us a rehearsed explanation, he had loads of stories and brought the history of the place to life. That was one of those moments where you realise you’re experiencing something you simply wouldn’t have found by wandering around Rome on your own. For families wondering whether this tour will work with children, ours are 8 and 11 and it worked brilliantly. Andrea was particularly good with them, and there was enough variety, food and interesting stuff happening that neither of them got bored. There is walking involved, obviously, so comfortable shoes are sensible, but the pace was very manageable. You also get a ridiculous amount of food. Come hungry. Seriously. If you’re only in Rome for a few days, I’d actually recommend doing this fairly early in your trip. It gives you a much better understanding of Testaccio, Roman food and the way the city has developed, and you’ll probably find yourself recognising things and understanding bits of Rome differently afterwards. A genuinely excellent experience, made even better by Andrea. The food was great, the history was fascinating, the kids loved it, and some of the people we met along the way were every bit as memorable as the food.

This was an excellent food tour with plenty of different stops to try different styles of food. The pasta dishes were amazing. Plenty of wine. JP was a very friendly and informative host for us.
