The foodies at Devour Tours are now operating all Walks food tours. For years their obsession has been in finding the best version of every dish and the biggest characters at the market. We think that singularity makes them the best at what they do.

Tour Description

Explore the trattorias of the Jewish Ghetto with special tastings

This immersive Rome food tour starts in one of the city's finest foodie neighborhoods: the old Jewish Ghetto. As you stop into some of the neighborhood's favorite trattorias to taste typical Roman starters, your guide will tell you how Roman street food developed from the unique mix of people in the city and the ingredients that were seasonally available to them.

Starting with the ultimate symbol of Roman-Jewish cuisine, we'll stand (it's the traditional way!) and enjoy deliciously crispy fried artichokes from a no-frills local takeaway spot. The perfect way to start your journey into the city's long love affair with on-the-go food.

Next, you'll visit two beloved local bakeries, as the tour takes us through the Jewish Quarter and towards Rome's historic center. Taste some rustic sweet and savory bites, reserved in advance from a popular family-run business and usually sold out by late morning. This is followed by mouth-watering fresh suppli, Rome's version of arrancino, from a legendary local business, first opened in the 19th century and run by the same family throughout the years.

From there, you're fully immersed in Rome's historic center where you'll pick up freshly fried codfish from a local spot that does it best. Pair it with a beer from a beer shop just around the corner, where the owner will give you personalized recommendations based on your own tastes.

Make your own pizza at a Roman pizzeria

Now it’s time to play chef! Because it takes so long for the dough to prove, it will be waiting for you when you arrive. You’ll roll it, add your own toppings and slide it into the huge wood-burning oven. As you work, you'll also learn interesting hints and tips for making pizza at home, as well as the very important difference between Roman and Neapolitan pizzas. Then take a well-deserved break to enjoy your pizza with a glass of Italian wine.

You'll finish off the evening in the Italian style; with a stroll through the city and a cup or cone of gelato, learning what differentiates this Italian treat from normal ice cream or sorbet.

Local experts teach you what and where to eat in Rome

With small groups of only 12 people or fewer, your Rome Street Food Tour will be more like a casual outing with friends than a traditional tour. You’ll be able to engage more with your guide as they teach you what you should eat while in Rome and where to eat it, with restaurant recommendations specific to your tastes. They’ll teach you how to tell an authentic restaurant from a touristy one (not always that obvious), or which dishes on “Italian” menus back home won’t show up in Italy - because your time in Rome should certainly be measured in meals!

Our local experts are hand-picked for their passion for Italian food. They’re obsessive about getting the best meals and the best bang for their buck, making them the perfect people to lead your culinary exploration of Rome. With small groups and friendly guides, you’ll truly experience one of Italy’s most pleasurable passions – food!

I didn't know I loved food tours until I took my first Devour tour in Venice. Now, I can't get enough. The Rome Street Food Tour was, of course, so delicious! Now I know what I want to eat, where to get it, and how to order. The other part that was just as important was learning about the connection between what we were eating and the culture. And how the history of Rome factors in to popular foods today.
