Tour description

Walk Rome’s Most Storied Road Far from the Crowds

Your journey begins in central Rome where you'll board a private vehicle taking you away from the bustle of the modern city to the Appian Way, one of the oldest roads in the world. This historic route once linked Rome to the distant edges of its empire. As you stroll its timeworn cobblestones, your guide brings the road to life and point out sites along the way such as the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella.

Marvel at the Mastery of Roman Engineering

Next, you’ll come face to face with one of ancient Rome’s greatest achievements: its aqueducts. These vast structures once carried water across miles of countryside into the heart of the city. You'll stand beneath their massive arches as your guide shares how this network sustained an empire.

Descend into the Catacombs with a Personal Guide

For a truly unforgettable finale, you’ll descend into the either Catacombs of San Sebastiano or Domitilla. In the quiet of the underground, your guide will lead you through ancient passageways decorated with frescoes, inscriptions, and burial chambers. They'll introduce you to the early Christians who once sought refuge here, giving you the context to appreciate this haunting and beautiful site.

Why Book a Private Tour

On this private experience, you’ll leave behind the crowds of central Rome and descend into a hidden world of tombs, aqueducts, and underground mysteries. Throughout your journey, private, air-conditioned transport ensures a seamless experience letting you relax between sites while your guide dives deeper into the stories that shaped them. Whether you’re a history lover or just want to get away from the crowds, this tour offers the personal attention and access to connect with Rome’s lesser-known wonders in a way few others ever do.

We went yo the Roman Aquaducts which the history is just amazing to hear about and see what’s left of them. The catacombs were the highlight of the trip for us. We would have liked a few more minutes though as the guide who took us down just walked through really quickly without giving us time to actually take it all in and look properly. The floor is uneven so you are busy watching your steps and being told to keep up so you couldn’t really soak it all in. The Appian Way is also full of history and it was a real treat to walk along part of the original highway. It was a great tour and would recommend to go do it!

This was an outstanding tour with a great guide. The catacombs tour was provided by an excellent Vatican guide and the overall tour guide was great for the aqueducts and appian way. The bus was also new and comfortable. Recommend this tour!

Had an excellent tour led by John Paul! John was friendly, professional, and imparted a lot of knowledge about Rome to our group. Our group size was 14 and the pace was good. Our driver was friendly as well. Of note, we did not see any skulls or skeletons in the Catacombs. The Catacombs are still interesting to experience, but there are not many objects inside. The Park of the Aqueducts was my favorite part of this tour, as it was a serene and picturesque spot away from the busy city center of Rome.

Antonella R was a fantastic guide and we really enjoyed the tour! The catacombs were definitely a highlight but we also got to see a shepherd and his flock of while at the aqueducts which was an added bonus.
