See the highlights in just 2 hours on a Pompeii Express Tour

Pompeii is one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the world, but without context, much of its story is hard to read. That’s why we created the Pompeii Express Tour: a fast, focused two-hour experience led by a trained archaeologist, designed to reveal the most compelling highlights.

Travel back to 79 AD with expert insight from a trained archaeologist

Your journey begins at Porta Marina, the original gateway into the city, where you'll follow in the footsteps of ancient Romans entering Pompeii. Your guide will set the scene for the visit, sharing stories about the city's commercial success and its greatest tragedy with the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. You'll encounter the haunting plaster casts of those who perished in the eruption, offering a sobering but essential memorial for the victims.

From there, you'll learn about daily life in Pompeii nearly 2,000 years ago. You'll walk along Pompeii’s bustling main street, lined with everything from fast food stalls to upper-class homes. See a Roman bakery with its ovens still intact, and step into what was once an early form of supermarket, where daily goods were bought and sold. And visit the Roman theater, where open-air performances once entertained crowds, and a bathhouse to learn how social life unfolded in these sophisticated spaces.

At the Basilica of Pompeii and Temple of Apollo, your guide will explain the structure of civic and religious life. The nearby Forum, was the heart of activity in Pompeii and here you'll have an incredible view of Mount Vesuvius looming in the distance. Along the way, your guide will spotlight newly opened areas and active digs, offering rare insight into Pompeii’s status as a living archaeological site. New discoveries are made here every year, and our guides are tuned into the latest excavation updates.

A thoughtfully designed experience for travelers short on time

Whether you’re traveling with kids, short on time, or simply prefer a shorter visit, this Pompeii Express Tour delivers a smart, impactful experience that still gives you a real sense of what makes Pompeii legendary. Ilaria is an amazing guide for Pompeii. I have been interested in Pompeii since I was a kid and this fulfilled all the dreams I had of seeing this amazing place and experiencing the history of it. I would go on a tour with Ilaria wherever she wants to educate me about.

This tour was fantastic and so informative. Paulo, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable about the site, culture and events of the time. With deep respect for the lives that were lost and without overwhelming us with numbers, he was able to deepen our understanding of Pompeii's culture over 2000 years ago, their daily life and society. Even though we visited in July and the park was very crowded, he was able to show us the important sites, and more, while avoiding the crowds. The small group size (another family and us) made it easy to ask questions to develop a deeper understanding of what we were seeing. Worth every penny.

Sonia was an excellent guide—knowledgeable, passionate and engaging—who seemed to know her way through the crowds as well as the ruins! She brought the place to life by explaining humble sights such as fast food outlets as well as the grand villas and public spaces. It was good to be in a small group, and the earpieces worked well. Worth staying on afterwards as there are less tourists, and Villa dei Misteri is not included (extra €8 per person charge on site).

This is a wonderful tour, especially given the hands on experience and knowledge of our tour guide Ilaria. She was able to showcase some truly wonderful archeological sites as well as give colorful stories to help explain some of the impressive ruins and artifacts. The color and grandeur of Pompeii is a treasure that all should see and behold, a truly magical place to walk among our ancestors. It brings history to life like no other place.
