Chianti vineyards are spread throughout Tuscany, but to we recommend visiting the wineries in the heart of the Chianti region.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, head to\u00a0Greve in Chianti, located less than an hour from Florence, for beautiful castles and miles of vineyards that change color along with the seasons. That&#8217;s where you can taste the world-famous\u00a0<em>Brunello di Montalcino\u2014<\/em>the only wine made entirely of the lightweight, acidic grape. For wine-lovers, though, Montepulciano&#8217;s real attraction is its\u00a0<em>Vino Nobile di Montepulciano,\u00a0<\/em>a dry, full-bodied\u00a0red.<\/p>\n<p>No one&#8217;s sure why\u00a0<em>Vino Nobile,\u00a0<\/em>or &#8220;noble wine,&#8221; got its name\u2014but many believe that, for a long time, it was the only drink served to the nobles of the area. Here&#8217;s what we <em>do\u00a0<\/em>know: The historic wine is made from dry\u00a0<em>prugnolo gentile\u00a0<\/em>grapes\u2014a variation of Sangiovese\u2014with red grapes added (up to 20 percent), and then aged in oak barrels.
