Expect to pay roughly €20 to 30 for a casual lunch, €40 to 70 per person for dinner at a mid-range restaurant, and €7 to 15 for beach access (sunbed and umbrella) at private lidos. Accommodation prices vary widely, but hotels are much more expensive in summer, with lower rates in spring and fall. Visiting outside peak months can significantly reduce costs.

How easy is it to get around Positano without a car?

Positano is very walkable, though be prepared for lots of stairs. Most visitors get around on foot, by local bus, or by boat. Ferries connect Positano with Capri, Amalfi, Sorrento, and other coastal towns, while buses run up to nearby villages like Montepertuso and Nocelle. Renting a car is generally not recommended due to narrow roads, traffic, and limited parking.

What’s the best time of year to visit Positano?

The best times to visit Positano are May/June and September, when the weather is warm, the sea is swimmable, and crowds are more manageable. July and August are lively but very busy and expensive. Spring (April–May) is ideal for sightseeing, hiking, and shopping, while early fall still offers beach weather with fewer tourists. Many businesses close or reduce hours in winter, though Positano retains a quieter charm year-round.

Want to experience Positano without the stress of planning?
If a full Amalfi Coast stay isn’t on your itinerary, you can still enjoy the magic of Positano on a seamless day trip from Rome.
