Yes, the countryside of Tuscany is stunning and we love to bring guests their on our magnificent <a href=\"https:\/\/walksofitaly.com\/blog\/tuscany-tours\">driving tours for lovers of wine, food, and history<\/a>. But did you know how many\u00a0<em>other\u00a0<\/em>spectacular landscapes Italy boasts beyond its cities? One of our favorite areas, the <strong>Campo Imperatore<\/strong>, is especially spectacular.\u00a0The plateau lies beneath both the highest peak in the Apennine mountains and the southernmost glacier in Europe; it&#8217;s also home to medieval hill towns and one of Italy&#8217;s oldest ski resorts. The tiny, semi-autonomous region of the <strong>Valle d&#8217;Aosta<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>is famed for the Alps, great skiing, the Matterhorn, and a hybrid culture of Swiss, French and Italian. But it\u00a0<em>also\u00a0<\/em>boasts some seriously stunning\u2014and productive\u2014countryside, all overlooked by Alpine peaks. The region produces 13 varieties of D.O.C. wine (here&#8217;s where to <a href=\"http:\/\/walksofitaly.com\/blog\/food-and-wine\/guide-to-italian-wines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">find out more on what that means<\/a>) and makes many cheeses, including Pecorino and ricotta. (Here&#8217;s where you can see <a href=\"http:\/\/walksofitaly.com\/blog\/puglia\/photography-reasons-to-go\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">more gorgeous pictures of Puglia<\/a>!). You have the rolling hills, medieval towns, and fantastic olive and wine vineyards of Tuscany\u2014but with a slightly wilder-feeling landscape and many fewer tourists. \u00a0This, for example, is the beautiful countryside outside of Montefalco, a lovely medieval town in Umbria. Not only is this farmland verdant and green, but it boasts stunning views of the glittering Mediterranean in the background. Although the whole region is filled with beautiful farms and vineyards, our <em>favorite\u00a0<\/em>part might have to be the <strong>Val d&#8217;Orcia<\/strong>, pictured both here and at top. A World Heritage site, the landscape is where almost every postcard of Tuscany&#8217;s countryside that we&#8217;ve ever seen has come from!<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><em>Do you love the Italian countryside?\u00a0<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Then remember to help protect it! When you&#8217;re in Italy&#8217;s countryside, stay at\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/walksofitaly.com\/blog\/hotels\/what-is-an-agriturismo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">agriturismi<\/a> <\/em>and buy products directly from local farmers.
