Private Boat Excursion - Murano Glass-Making Factory

Extended Description

One of Venice’s most famous artisanal products is its beautiful glass—and when a fire-safety measure was passed by Venice in 1291, all of the city’s glass factories were relocated to the island of Murano. Delve into this centuries-old tradition—and perhaps even leave with a handcrafted souvenir—in this private excursion!

Enjoy your private motorboat ride from Venice to Murano, across the dazzling lagoon, where you’ll have plenty of opportunity for the kinds of photo ops others only dream of.

When you arrive at Murano, you’ll be met by a specialist in the fine art of glassblowing and taken to the best glass factory on the island. Why do we say that? Because the family that runs the factory has been in the glassmaking business for so long, their name is in the “Golden Book”—the list of the oldest glass-making families in Murano. Over the years, they’ve perfected glassmaking to such an art that Picasso chose to work with the gallery, above any other, to design pieces for them that are still sold exclusively with them.

You’ll watch a glassblower at work (truly mesmerizing!) and learn about the history of the craft before getting to explore the factory’s gallery. The handcrafted pieces here are so gorgeous and elaborate, not to mention one-of-a-kind, that it’s just like walking through an art gallery! If you like, have your chance to pick a souvenir (necklace pendant? Wine glass? Chandelier?) before returning to the boat. Relaxed, refreshed, and with a new appreciation for what real Murano glass is (hint: it’s not what you see sold in many of Venice’s souvenir shops!), return to your dream Venice vacation!
