What better way is there to experience Venice than from a gondola? Since the 11th century, Venetians have been using these handmade boats to shuttle across town (and to show off their wealth!). By the 16th century, in fact, there were more than 10,000 gondolas on Venice’s canals. Now, participate in a time-honored tradition—and see Venice at its most atmospheric—with your own, private gondola ride.

On this 35-minute private gondola ride, you’ll meet a the “Santa Sofia” pier on the Grand Canal. Enjoy beautiful views of Venice’s most famous palaces such as the Cà d’Oro, and then explore the charming inner canals of Venice’s main island, including the House of Marco Polo and the Miracoli church, the exquisite church of Miracles, one of the best examples of the early Venetian Renaissance! Conveniently, you return to your starting point at Santa Sofia.

It’s important to note that you can get a gondola on your own. But here’s the catch: even though there’s an official city rate (starting at 80 euros), lots of gondoliers charge much more, or undercut the amount of time they are supposed to give. Between negotiating prices and agreeing on a route you wish to take with people who may not speak your language, this process can be difficult and you might be taken advantage of.

So we say: For a small extra fee, let us take care of everything for you. Communicate in English, receive a written confirmation, have the option of a pickup from a variety of points around the city, know exactly what you’re getting, and experience Venice as it should be—effortless and romantic!

Notes: Prices listed are per boat, not per person. Each boat seats 6 people (including children). Please be aware that, if you have a serenade on your ride, the singers take up 2 spots on the gondola. This is not a guided tour, but a traditional gondola ride.
